Khyber
I rescued Khyber not long after starting graduate school in Canada. I was starting a brand new adventure in life and had been longing for the companionship of a dog. I found him listed in a classified ad and found out that he was going to be surrendered to a shelter. He was living in a home of addicts, with sheets stapled over the windows and no dog food, toys, bed, or bowls. He turned out to be an amazing dog. Right away he joined me on field work in remote parts of northwestern Ontario, has hiked all over the Adirondacks, became a fixture for many years at Johns Brook Lodge, and often joins me as I travel around the Adirondacks studying lakes, ponds, and streams.
